PHILIP Lanyon CSC

PHILOSOPHY
Rooted in a legacy of photography passed down through generations, my passion for creating still images bridges spontaneous street photography
and conceptual storytelling. Inspired by the vibrant, everyday scenes of Vancouver as seen through Fred Herzog’s lens, and the conceptual rigor of Jeff Wall, I seek to capture the raw, unfiltered beauty of ordinary life.
Photography is my most personal connection to the art form. It is where I discover, refine, and stay grounded in my own visual sensibilities. Working independently allows intuition, curiosity, and observation to lead—free from external influence or collaboration.
These sensibilities then carry into my work as a cinematographer, informing how I approach light, atmosphere, and mood within the collaborative environment of filmmaking, where many voices shape a single vision.
Through my work, I aim to evoke presence, wonder, and quiet introspection, inviting viewers to explore their own emotions and perspectives. As my practice continues to evolve, I seek to balance boldness in the moment with thoughtful, conceptual creation – continually breaking new ground.
